Each master bathroom has an oversized oval tub that looks out over the sea. We love the Beach Villa when with others whom are cruising with us. Ship Communications
Anyone who cruises Breakaway should know the cruise fare is a starter price. While many restaurants and activities are included in the cruise fare, it's really the extras that create a special experience. For a more traditional cruise traveler, that approach can seem like nickel and diming, but for those accustomed to resort stays, it's quite similar. That said, Breakaway is not for everyone, especially those on either extreme of the traditional cruising spectrum.

But even though our sailing was not full, the ship felt cramped. The hallway outside our cabin was narrower than usual—a problem during the morning and evening when cleaning gear took up more than half the hallway’s width. The jogging track—just one-eighth of a mile in length—passes through one of the busiest areas of the ship.

As time has gone on, we have wanted more of our Cruising Experience. We started with the most inexpensive inside cabin during our honeymoon 43 years ago. Five years ago, we found the NCL Haven and loved it. The Haven Premium was a bit to much for us on this cruise so we did a Club Balcony Suite on this cruise. Two cruises ago, November 2021, we did the nicest Haven Cabin (The H2 Haven Deluxe Owners Suite) with our two (2) adult children. The older we get, the better we enjoy family and friends joining us when we cruise.

I tried about five times and go an error message each time to come back later. In regards to entertainment on the Breakaway, we agree with you on the beer house. We thought the best entertainment on the ship was at Syd Norman's.

It's a style that other cruise lines have adopted, but Norwegian Breakaway did it first by outpacing its competitors with sheer number of restaurants, shows and entertainment venues. Our experience onboard a seven-night cruise felt so much like a jam-packed stay at a really good Las Vegas resort that we only remembered we were on a ship when looking out to sea. Although NCL downsized Breakaway slightly from its last ship, the gargantuan Norwegian Epic, it’s still quite a large vessel. At 146,600 tons, Breakaway debuted as the world’s eighth largest cruise ship (though that status will soon be eclipsed by other new ships). The security team told us there were 3891 passengers on our cruise, just slightly less than the ship’s 4028 capacity, at double occupancy.
On the flip side, Breakaway is also not a ship for those who prefer cruise traditions. The only old-school elements are singles gatherings, the small Norwegian Breakaway library (best to bring your own books) and mainstream ports. There's little true enrichment, and it can be hard to mingle with other passengers unless you’re staying in the Studio section, which features a private lounge for solo travelers.
Food quality ranged considerably, with the buffet venue presenting decent food in a clamorous setting and the main dining room offering serviceable if unexceptional food. Ocean Blue, a restaurant with a menu designed by Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian, provided an excellent meal that carried a $49 dining fee. We wouldn’t call Breakaway a cruise for foodies, but for those willing to pony up there were satisfying meals to be had.
Passengers who stay in this area tend to intermingle in the two-deck lounge and often form on-ship friendships with one another. With so many bars and lounges to discover, finding your favorite may take a few days. Feel the energy of the pumping music and pulsing walls as you dance till the wee hours at Bliss Ultra Lounge. Grab a burger and beer anytime you like at O’Sheehan’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill. Or chill out, literally, in the only ice bar at sea.
The casino and a couple of the bar/lounges are not separate defined rooms but located in the hallways. Trying to wait in line to get a table at the Noodle Bar/restaurant required getting in a line an hour before it opened and the line went down the middle of the casino. People who decide to board this cruise ship will enjoy all that Freestyle Cruising has to offer while being on the vessel to the picturesque island of Bermuda. Remarkable cuisine, family fun, and daily entertainment, as well as wonderful staff and crew, that's what you could get. Things we didn’t like included the prevalence of smoking, particularly in the casino (NCL is one of only two mainstream cruise lines that still allows smoking on guest balconies).
A parent or assigned guardian had to check the kids in and out of the facility. The Pulse Fitness Center and aerobics room was adjacent to the spa. The cardio equipment was Precor and there were plenty of treadmills and a few climbers; bikes were in short supply. Teens age 13 to 16 were allowed to use the fitness center when accompanied by an adult.
